Yi received his medical degree at Central South University XiangYa School of Medicine, China and his Ph.D. in Biological Engineering at Purdue University. He completed his postdoc training in single-cell systems biology at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. During his Ph.D. and postdoc research, he developed advanced nanotechnology and imaging tools to address challenging biomedical questions at the single-molecule level. In the Synthetic Neurobiology group, Yi optimized the chemistry underlying expansion microscopy, and applied it to diverse contexts in biology and medicine.
