Beatriz Goncalves graduated, in 2012, in biomedical engineering (integrated masters) with a major in medical electronics, at the University of Minho, Portugal. She went on to become a PhD student in the leaders for technical industries program, at the University of Minho, and worked with the MIT-Portugal Program within the Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing (EDAM) focus area. Her scientific interests were, while a visiting student in the group, in the design and development of MEMS, in particular medical devices, neuroscience tools for brain mapping and modulation of neural activity, and optoelectronics and microfabrication technologies.
