Andrew Kirjner is a Ph.D. student in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Department at MIT, co-advised by Profs. Ila Fiete and Ed Boyden. His research focuses on applying machine learning techniques to biological sequence design for neurobiological applications, with the goal of effectively introducing cutting-edge models from ML into the wet lab. He is currently working on designing a machine-learning guided directed evolution pipeline for engineering functionally superior genetically encoded voltage indicators (GEVIs).

Prior to MIT, Andrew received his B.S. in Computer Science and M.S in Statistics from Stanford University. While at Stanford, he conducted research on the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) circuit under the guidance of Dr. Jennifer Raymond.
